Abel Gomez

Meet our strength coach, who has dedicated his life to pursuing fitness and wellness! Born and raised in Las Vegas, he was introduced to the world of CrossFit in 2010 by his high school PE coach. From that moment on, he was hooked and became an integral part of the team that helped make Rancho High School an official CrossFit affiliate in 2011.

Driven by a desire to improve his performance in wrestling, he trained tirelessly in CrossFit and began competing in local competitions, ultimately qualifying for the 2013 Teen Gauntlet at the CrossFit Games, where he placed an impressive third in the world in his age group. He continued to excel in wrestling, winning a state championship in 2013 before pursuing his sport at the collegiate level.

At Utah Valley University, he joined the D1 wrestling program and pursued a degree in Exercise Science to deepen his knowledge of the human body and anatomy. During his time at UVU, he learned from strength coaches in the valley and took on personal training for a wide range of athletes. This experience enabled him to work with professional dancers who are now on Dancing with the Stars and world team members on the US wrestling team.

After graduating, he became the strength coach for UVU Men’s wrestling program and then transitioned to training in CrossFit and coaching strength at his local CrossFit gym. He recently moved back to Las Vegas with his wife, and he looks forward to continuing his coaching career in the city where it all began. With a wealth of experience and expertise under his belt, he is excited to bring his passion for fitness and wellness to Rugged CrossFit. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting on your fitness journey, he can help you achieve your goals and reach your full potential.
